Why do missions

People learn best by teaching, so providing chances for members to do that firsthand will help develop their faith and deepen their relationship with God. Another need for missions ministry lies in leading by example. Creating opportunities for families to serve together and for kids and youth to see these examples at an early age will raise them to be mission-minded. Take the youth group on a weekend trip to help paint a house or take the elementary students to a local food pantry to help.

Start small. Find a staff member or volunteer to lead and initiate the ministry. A great way to get started is to find some local, existing organizations to partner with and then expand from there.

Start in your own community and slowly reach further. Encourage weekend trips to surrounding areas and organize spring break and Christmas break serving opportunities. Supporting existing missionaries is another great place to start. Have missionaries come and share what they are doing with your church congregation.

This will help people to feel connected and a part of something global and God-focused. Small introductions of missions into your church can create a mission-minded community, one that is a light for those in need.

If your church is in need of a leadership role that can take on this new ministry, we at Vanderbloemen Search Group would be happy to partner with you in finding a Missions Pastor. There are real people everywhere who, if left unengaged and unreached, will never know the wonder and delight of truly worshiping their creator.

This reality should bring home to Christians the importance of missions. And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard?

And how can they hear without a teacher? How do we do this? For starters go to your neighborhood, go on short-term mission trips, go on Seed Week trips in New York City, or become a long-term missionary. The glory of God is at stake, and real people are still lost. In Matthew Jesus said that we should pray for the laborers to carry the Gospel to the harvest field. The harvest is plenteous. The work to be done is tremendously large.

What is necessary are the people to go out and do the work. Jesus said that we should pray that the laborers would step up to the task and accept the challenge of carrying the Gospel to the people. Some of the last words of Christ before He ascended to heaven was that we should go and carry His Word to the world. In Matthew and 20 Jesus said to go into the whole world with the Gospel, teach the hearers and baptize believers. Jesus knew the persecution that would soon come to the church in Jerusalem.

He knew the believers were about to be scattered in the world. Just a couple of generations ago people were born, lived, worked and died in the same town or close to the same area. Today the world is such a mobile place. We are going. What we need to do now is teach what we know about the Lord. Paul wrote in Romans 10 that preachers were needed to carry the Gospel. Who will go to preach?

Obviously those who are called to the ministry should be the ones preaching. What will your part in missions be? We should all be sharing the Gospel with those around us. But, does God want you to be more involved by committing to full-time ministry? Even if you are not called to be a missionary on a foreign field, you can help the cause of missions by supporting missions in your local church. This support can come by way of prayer, finances, or time and labor for the work of the ministry.
