If you receive a substandard grade D, F, FW, or NP or a Withdrawal W the second time you take it, you will be allowed to enroll in the course only one more time. The third time you enroll in the course will be the last time you will be able to enroll in the course. The withdrawal will count towards your progress for academic standing and for financial aid.
For more information regarding grades, see Board Policy Ask Canyons A-Z index Search search. Students who take FLVS courses are given a day grace period, once activated by their instructor. During this time, students may withdraw from the course with no academic penalty. Each college has its own deadline for withdrawing from a class. Generally, withdrawing from a class once or twice throughout a college career is not a problem. Some schools allow students to petition to have a grade removed from use in calculating the cumulative GPA, but the record of the class is not withdrawn from the transcript.
If your child is currently Active A or Classroom Assigned CA , your child must contact the instructor via phone or email to submit a request to be withdrawn. If your child is taking a FLVS course as part of the school day, your child must contact the school counselor before he or she may drop a course. Students may make a voluntary withdrawal from a class or classes using PAWS, up until the midpoint.
There are limits on withdrawals with the grade of W for students pursuing associate and bachelor degrees.
Before withdrawing from a course, students should consult with their academic advisor. Having one or two W's on your transcript may not be a big deal to most graduate and professional schools, but if you have multiple W's on your transcript , it may lead some reviewers to question your ability to complete a rigorous and demanding curriculum.
